“We will have to move a lot on the pitch”

Before the UEFA Champions League League Stage Matchday 3 game between Athletic (Spain) and Qarabağ, our team’s head coach Gurban Gurbanov and defender Kevin Medina took part in a press conference. They shared their thoughts ahead of tomorrow’s match.

Gurban Gurbanov said that they are ready for the tough opponent: “It’s an important game. We will be facing a very good team. They have an experienced head coach and a distinctive style of play — dynamic, very fast, and aggressive both in defense and attack. Our own experience has also been growing year by year. We know that we will have to move a lot and think a lot on the pitch. We’ll try to play more compactly and withstand Athletic’s tempo. I believe our fans will be pleased with the game we show and the fight we put up.”

The head coach also commented on the growing interest in Qarabağ’s success in Turkey: “We always receive great support from our brother country Turkey in every match. Even when we play away, they come to watch our games. I thank each and every one of them. It’s a very pleasant feeling. Knowing that there are so many people who value us increases our responsibility and motivation.”

Kevin Medina emphasized that they will aim to fight with dignity against their opponents: “We will try to put up a worthy fight against Athletic. We are not only playing against the Williams brothers, but against the whole Athletic team. Nico and Iñaki are valuable players. I wasn’t in good form last season, but that helps me stay highly motivated for this season’s matches.”
