A press conference was held with our team’s head coach, Gurban Gurbanov, after the “Qarabağ” – “Karvan-Yevlakh” (3:0) match of the Bizon Azerbaijan Cup Round of 16. The experienced specialist shared his thoughts on the game:
“I congratulate my players. They played with great discipline. In matches like this, it is very important to be patient and not break the tactical discipline — especially in a cup game. We had faced this opponent four days earlier. They analyzed us very well. We couldn’t score until the 80th minute. Although we had many scoring chances, we lacked accuracy. Such games sometimes benefit the players a lot because the opponent knows you well and doesn’t allow you to play. In such situations, you must constantly search for ways to force the opponent into mistakes. When you succeed in doing so, you feel satisfied. Overall, it was an interesting game. I also thank our fans.”
The head coach also commented on reaching 800 games as the coach of “Qarabağ”: “To be honest, I never keep count myself. Maybe that keeps me more motivated. If such a successful statistic exists, I should be happy. Every footballer has a number they dream of reaching. Coaches also have career goals they think about. If I am able to coach another 200–300 successful matches, I would like to reach 1000 games. We must fulfill our responsibilities. In the coming years and matches, we will try to be even more disciplined.”
