Following the UEFA Champions League group stage second-round match between “Qarabağ” and “Copenhagen” (Denmark) (2:0), our head coach Gurban Gurbanov shared his thoughts. The experienced specialist evaluated the match at the post-game press conference:
“I congratulate my players and our fans. Today it felt as if they were all together on the pitch, standing behind one another. Thanks be to God, we achieved such a beautiful victory. Even though Copenhagen was our opponent, our players were not intimidated; they fought very hard, especially in the second half. In major tournaments like this, there are moments you just need to endure. We managed to do that in the second half. The opponent took more risks with substitutions. Yes, we lost possession a few times. But overall, fighting in this manner will greatly benefit us in the big matches ahead.”
The head coach also commented on the team’s 6 points after the first two rounds: “I always believed in this success. Last year, we played many good games, but we only managed to win once. I believed that if we could maintain our game and improve our fight, we would achieve better results this season. Now we have a very beautiful and useful record. I always work with confidence and treat my players with confidence as well. I advise them to remain confident on the pitch too.”
Gurban Gurbanov added that being at the top of the group table in the continent’s most prestigious club competition is a wonderful feeling: “It is a very beautiful, very pleasant feeling. We are Qarabağ of Azerbaijan. I am delighted with this achievement. Being in that position is magnificent. The President has also congratulated us, and I thank him as well. This means our responsibility grows even more. With greater belief, trust, and effort, we must move forward.”
